Chanel No5 – The Pitts? or #workthatworks
Any fashion conscious women can tell you that one of the most iconic perfumes of all time is Chanel No5, famous for its indulgent and extravagant adverts featuring celebrities such as Marilyn Monroe and Nicole Kidman. I remember the Nicole Kidman TVC vividly as the budget exceeded many an independent film; it has its own storyline, soundtrack and was incredibly dramatic. They use beautiful, sexy, characteristic women, that ooze success, everything Chanel No5 encapsulates.
Chanel are not afraid to produce opulent commercials which focus on the celebrity first and the perfume second but their most recent commercial endorsed by the very masculine (yet ageing) Brad Pitt made me think they hadn’t quite got the balance right. Yes he will always be a heart-throb, but should a man…be the new face of one of the most feminine fragrances of all time. Was the idea ‘Wear this perfume and you will bag yourself a complete Adonis?’ I didn’t get that impression?
The commercial needed a heroine, it needed a beautiful women to sweep Brad off his feet, to remind women of the empowering fragrance that has stood the test of time.
Can anyone think of any other celebrity endorsed products that just haven’t quite worked?
